NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a home invasion robbery on Huntington Street near the Rutgers University campus, which was reported at approximately 12:45am on April 10.

According to the authorities, three male suspects entered the victims’ residence through an unlocked back door, entered bedrooms and demanded money.

One of the four victims, who were all male Rutgers students between the ages of 19 and 21, was reportedly punched in the face by one of the robbers but did not sustain a significant injury.

Meanwhile, another suspect went into a dresser and removed a significant amount of cash.  Police said that the three suspects then left on foot and entered two vehicles, which sped away from the area towards Easton Avenue.

The first vehicle was described as a black four-door Honda or Acura and the second vehicle was a blue or black four-door vehicle.

The identities of the three suspects are limited at this time, according to the NBPD.   One suspect was described as a tall, skinny African-American man, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with white laces, and sweatpants.

Another suspect is described as a tall, medium build African-American man, who was also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants.

The third suspect was described as a short, light-skinned male, possibly of Indian, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern decent, also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants.

Police determined that a significant amount of time had passed between when the robbery had happened and when the victims actually called the police, and said that one of the victims was “intoxicated and high as he spoke with the detectives.”

According to the NBPD press release, the victim admitted to ad consumed liquor and ingested a drug called Molly, a form of Ecstasy, earlier that evening.

“The preliminary investigation suggests that the recent purchase of Molly by the victim and the home invasion robbery are connected,” reads the release.

One of the four victims was in the bathroom and did not witness the robbery or see the suspects.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Detective Kenneth Abode at 732-745-5217.
