EDISON, NJ—A woman walking near the Treetops Apartments in Highland Park told police she was pushed, sprayed with mace, and robbed near the intersection of Road 1 and Cedar Lane in Edison.

The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is investigating a robbery because the incident technically happened on the fringe of the university’s Livingston campus, which is located in Piscataway, and small portions of Highland Park and Edison.

The incident was reported to have occurred on April 20 at approximately 7:30 PM, according to a Rutgers crime alert.

The victim, who is affiliated with the university, was hospitalized after she reported two juveniles who pushed her to the ground and then sprayed her with mace.

“One of the perpetrators then removed the victim’s cell phone from her pocket before they both fled down Road One towards Road Three,” reads the crime alert.

The numbered roads are in the easternmost fringe of the Livingston campus of Rutgers, which was once a U.S. army camp known as Camp Kilmer during the World War II era.

The perpetrators were described as a “heavy set African American juvenile female wearing a green jacket and having shoulder length hair dyed blonde,” and a “thin African American juvenile female.”

RUPD asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, to contact their Detective Bureau at (848) 932-8025.
