JERSEY CITY, NJ—On April 25, New Brunswick’s Leroy Davila will be making his long awaited return to the boxing ring against an opponent who goes by the name of Dylan Price.

For the last few years, Leroy “Lucious” Davila has been a standout boxer in the amateur ranks and has done nothing but dominate in the NJ Golden Gloves tournaments and in the National Boxing Championships.

“I feel a little more nervous than usual. It’s been almost a year since the last time I fought,” Davila told New Brunswick Today.

Davila injured his shoulder during his last fight and has since had surgery and made a full recovery. He has been focused and training hard to prepare for his comeback fight, scheduled for April 25 in Jersey City.

“I feel a little pressured being that I’m coming back after surgery, so I feel like I have to look great,” Davila said.  “My family will be there, plus I haven’t fought in New Jersey since 2010. Its just a lot of pressure going into this fight.”

Davila is a two time USA Boxing National Champion, National Golden Gloves Champion, National PAL Champion, and the 2012 USA Boxing Championships Silver Medalist.  He was also the captain of Team USA’s boxing team and the top-ranked boxer in his weight class (108 lbs.) in the country.

Davila has come a long way to get to where he is today, proving that he is a force to be reckoned with.

He started off fighting in parks and on street corners in New Brunswick, but today he represents Team USA, and his legend goes far beyond the Hub City, to the New Jersey boxing world, and beyond.

Davila has been named Amateur Boxer of the Year for three years in a row and was also inducted into the NJ Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014.

When asked what his future plans were after this fight, Davila replied, “My plans after this fight are to fight in June for the Olympic trial qualifier and my goal is to be the first New Brunswick native to make it to the Olympics.”

The 2016 Olympic Games will take place in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Davila will make his long-awaited comeback against Sicklerville’s Dylan Price on April 25.  It is unlikely Davils will be an amateur for long, so this could be one of the last chances to see New Brunswick’s hometown hero fight at an affordable price.

The fight is scheduled for 7pm on Saturday April 25, at the Pershing Field Ice Rink, located at 807 Summit Avenue in Jersey City.  It is being organized by the Jersey City Recreation Foundation.

Tickets are available at NJGoldenGloves.com, and general admission seats are just $20, or $15 to stand.  Ringside seating is $25, and VIP seats including dinner are $50.
