EDISON, NJ–On Tuesday, March 31, at 2:50 PM, a man showed up at Magyar Savings Bank on Inman Avenue, asserted that he had a weapon without showing it, and recieved cash from frightened bank tellers.

This was at least the second robbery this month, following a similar incident on March 17, when the TD Bank on Oak Tree Road was held up.

In both robberies, the robber walked up to a bank teller, showed a note demanding money, indicated that he had a weapon, and bagged an undisclosed amount of money.

He left the bank in an unknown direction after the first robbery, but the second one saw the robber heading out to the east.

The bandit, who is believed to be the same in both robberies, was described by police as a 5’8″ to 5’10” tall man, with facial stubble, dark skin, short hair, a stocky build, and wearing some construction-work safety clothes such as a safety vest.

He wore a navy blue baseball cap for the first robbery, but a gray one with the label “OBEY” on it for the second, according to authorities.

His pants and shirt were navy blue in the first incident, and he wore work boots for that occasion.  In the second incident, he was wearing a gray shirt, black leather jacket, light-colored baggy jeans, and black sneakers with white soles.

The Edison Police Department has teamed up with the FBI to crack this case. If you have information about the robberies, feel free to call the EPD Detective Bureau at (732) 248-7412.

Reporter at New Brunswick Today

Richard researched transportation, land use, history, and other topics. Investigated site plans. Attended public meetings (planning board, zoning board, parking authority board of directors, City Council) to record and help determine what was discussed. Analyzed blueprints and site plans to determine what land uses sites would be put to. Photographed sites that would be affected by proposed projects, as well as sites involved in news events. Employed Sketchup CAD to visualize new land uses, such as buildings and structures. Critiqued and wrote articles in fast-paced work environment, writing before deadlines. Made judgments as to what constituted proper material to include in articles. Created a zoning map; am working on ways to show it to the public. Consulted vintage maps to determine historic land uses.
