Rutgers Soccer Team Takes on Professionals at Free Scrimmage in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ—Sky Blue FC, a professional team in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) will host Rutgers University's team at Toms River North High School on March 29, in a match that will conclude its 2015 preview series.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and admission is free for all spectators.

Sky Blue has not allowed a single goal in its previous three preseason games this month. The club played: St. John’s, UNC, and Penn State.

Originally Scheduled For Summer 2014, Hamilton Street Paving Delayed Until Mid-April

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–With the snow and ice gone from the city's roadways, litter and potholes have taken their place.

Few places is this more apparent than on Hamilton Street, which divides the city's Fifth and Sixth Wards.  There, the badly damaged roadway is in need of repair, but the city government has fallen behind schedule.

After identifying the roadway as one that would be re-paved in 2014, thanks to funding from the NJ Department of Transportation, the city went back on its word last year, citing bad weather.

Rutgers President Barchi Addresses Major Issues at RUSA Town Hall

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—President Robert Barchi touched on many hot-button issues in his remarks to the Rutgers University Student Assembly (RUSA) on March 26.

Barchi began with an overview of the physical master plan that was presented at the the last Board of Governors meeting, focusing mainly on transportation and the new construction planned for the College Avenue campus.

Labor Groups Want Pharmacy Chains to Hike Wages as Well

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Some labor groups are aiming to expand their efforts to increase wages and are gearing up to “take on drugstore chains,” according to a report from Reuters News Service.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and TJ Maxx have already announced wage hikes, and Target Corp. will raise its minimum wage to $9 per hour, according to multiple reports.

Network Failure or Cyberattack? Rutgers Quiet About Breach Affecting Key Server

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University's Sakai online learning software is currently unavailable, and has been for some time, after what is either a major computer failure or a purposeful attack.

Connectivity issues have plagued parts of the university's computer network since the night of Friday, March 27, but Rutgers officials have not yet acknowledged the service outage, or responded to our email inquiries.

RadioShack Closes After Fifteen Years in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–At 8pm on Friday, March 27, the George Street RadioShack closed for the last time.

Remaining merchandise was being sold off at 80-90% discounts, and popular items included car chargers for cellular phones, cables, and lots of batteries for various cell phones.

But the electronics store closed for good following Friday’s day of business.  It had been in that location since 1999, one year after the New Brunswick Development Corporation's Liberty Plaza redevelopment opened.
