NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) has arrested two men they say were involved in a shooting that injured a 17-year-old and a 22-year-old near New Brunswick High School.
The first suspect, 24-year-old male Christopher Smith, was arrested at approximately 4:00 p.m. on March 24 outside of his residence in Franklin Township.
The second suspect was 23-year-old Tywaan Bailey was arrested about two hours later at his home in Edison.
The arrests came a little more than two days after the two victims were injured in the Sunday afternoon shooting in the neighborhood between the high school and the Schwarz-Robeson public housing complex.
According to the NBPD, Smith and Bailey were both charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Police also searched the two suspect’s vehicles as well as their residences, where they say they found large quantities of narcotics such as heroin, prescription pills, PCP, and a handgun.
The NBPD said that Bailey has been charged additionally with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute.

Police said that detectives are “[exploring] the relationship between Sunday’s shooting on Class Place and Saturday’s shooting on Mason Avenue.”
