NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Shortly before 1:30am on March 28, city police say they found a stabbing victim “bleeding profusely from the neck” in the city’s Sixth Ward near the intersection of Sicard and Senior Streets.

Shortly thereafter, they allegedly located a naked man pacing back and forth inside an apartment that contained large amounts of drugs.

Both men turned out to be Rutgers University students, at least one of whom now faces attempted murder and drug distribution charges, according to a New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) press release.

According to police radio transmissions, officers investigating a motor vehicle accident nearby found 23-year-old Andrew Kim, the victim, and described a “three-inch laceration to his face.”

“He said someone threw a knife at him,” said an officer on scene.

During the investigation, police also went inside a nearby apartment building at 66 Sicard Street, where they requested an ambulance come to the aid of an “emotionally disturbed person” who they said was possibly on drugs, according to the transmissions.

Kevin Huang, a 22-year-old student, has been charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and a slew of drug offenses including possession, distribution, and distribution in a school zone.

A witness stated that both the victim and suspect had taken the psychadelic drug lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) earlier in the evening, according to police.

At some point, Huang began to act very strange, becoming aggressive, removing his clothing, and destroying the apartment, the witness said.

The witness left the apartment to find help, and returned to find Kim fleeing the apartment, bleeding from the neck.

Kim and another witness identified Huang as the suspect.

The press release says he was found “naked and pacing back and forth,” on the second floor of the home.

“As officers secured Huang’s apartment and took him into custody, they observed large quantities of drugs and paraphernalia about the apartment,” reads the NBPD release.

Police seized approximately 15 pounds of marijuana, approximately 500 bars of Xanax, a significant amount of cocaine, other unidentified pills and crystals, packaging materials consistent with drug distribution, and a significant amount of cash.

Kim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries.

Police say the investigation is continuing, as detectives look into what led up to the assault, and “the scope of the narcotic activity.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Drew Weiss at (732) 745-5217.

Later into the night, a caller reported that a man broke down the door to his home and fled, just a few blocks down Sicard Street.

Rutgers University Police Department has not yet issued a crime alert about either incident, both of which occurred within sight of the school’s main campus.

Police officials and Rutgers Office of Media Relations have not responded to an inquiry about whether or not a crime alert will be issued.
