NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—City police are investigating a shooting reported by residents of the Second Ward at approximately 9:39pm on March 11.
City spokesperson Jennifer Bradshaw confirmed that police are investigating the “shots fired” last night on Rutgers, and that no one was reportedly injured in the inciden
According to police radio transmissions, neighbors reported hearing four to six gunshots on Rutgers Street between Lee and Remsen Avenues.
One officer described what a witness told him: “They said after they heard the gunshots, they saw two cars flee on both sides of Lee Avenue, north and southbound.”
Witnesses described the two cars speeding away as a large dark-colored SUV similar to a Ford Expedition and a silver two-door Honda with tinted windows.
“The Expedition went towards New Brunswick, towards Sanford Street, and the two-door Honda went towards Livingston Avenue,” said one officer on the scene.
It is not clear if any arrests have been made in the incident. Â New Brunswick Police spokesperson JT Miller did not immediately respond to a phone message.Â
