UPDATE (3:10PM): Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz told Edison Now that service on the Northeast Corridor has resumed on 3 of the 4 tracks. Trains are operating with delays of at least 45 minutes, and there are signal problems in the area of Metropark.
NJ Transit trains on the Northeast Corridor Line are operating with at least 60-minute delays. Coast Line trains are operating with at least 15-minute delays.There was no estimate on when the fourth track would be working.
“Crews are working as hard as they can to prepare for this afternoon’s rush hour” stated Schulz.
NJ Transit is cross-honoring tickets.
ISELIN, NJ–A truck crash on Route 27 at Correja Avenue apparently disabled a transformer that ultimately supplies power to the Northeast Corridor rail line, affecting both NJTransit and Amtrak service.
NJ Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line is also affected, and that service is suspended as well.
The suspension of the two lines represents all of the state’s heavy rail service south of Newark. Service between Newark Penn Station and New York Penn Station is also suspended on those lines.
Woodbridge Police Lieutenant Gregory G. Conklin told Edison Now that the incident was reported at 1:08 pm. Per Conklin, an 18-wheeler flatbed truck flipped over on the tracks. No injuries were reported.
Woodbridge Township Police, Woodbridge Ambulance and Rescue Squad, Woodbridge Township Fire District #11 – Iselin Fire Department, New Jersey Transit Police and Amtrak Police are on scene.
Amtrak Police are in charge of the scene. Attempts to contact Amtrak were not immediately successful, and there was no information on the Amtrak Northeast Corridor Twitter Page.
The Northeast Corridor Line is owned by Amtrak and leased to NJ Transit.
NJ Transit put out a service advisory at 1:39 pm. There is no estimate on when service might be restored.
