NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police responded to Jones Avenue near Handy Street after a man was reportedly stabbed in the back after he confronted a duo of robbers who he saw breaking into cars.
The incident occurred shortly after 9:30pm, and it’s not clear if police have made any arrests in the case.
“I was walking home from the store,” the victim told New Brunswick Today. “Saw them climb into my friend’s car so I stopped it.”
“It got violent. I got stabbed. They ran.”
The suspects were described as a black man and a black woman, “possibly in their 30’s [wearing] black jackets,” according to police radio transmissions.
“Female is the one with the knife,” said a dispatcher over the radio. Both suspects reportedly fled towards George Street.
The victim was checked out by paramedics, but declined to be taken to a hospital.
Rutgers University’s Police Department did not issue a “crime alert,” despite the incident’s proximity to campus. The scene of the crime is two short blocks from the Jameson dormitories.
No police agency has issued any statements on the crime, in fact.
Officials at Rutgers still have not explained why no alert was issued for a shooting located just a block from the city’s downtown campus on the morning of Monday February 23.
