NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The College Avenue Players (CAP), Rutgers’ premiere student-run comedy troupe, will be performing the comedy, “Crazy Town,” on February 27-28 and March 6 in Room 135 of Scott Hall, located at the corner of Hamilton Street and College Avenue.
Performance will be held at 8pm on all three nights, and March 6 will also include a second 11:59 pm show. Tickets cost $5 for Rutgers students with ID and $8 for all others.
The play is directed by Gabby Loveland and Toni Eisman and stars Courtney Averette, Anabel Caraballo, Celine Dirkes, Jim Myers, and Bethany Ruccolo.
“Crazy Town,” written by Jonathand Rand, consists of several newscasters that report on everyday life in Crazy Town.
“It’s funny because the play makes it seem like this town is completely normal when in reality it is anything but normal,” Loveland told New Brunswick Today.
Loveland has been with the College Avenue Players for a long time, and just last year she started off as an assistant director, and then this year becoming an artistic director. This will be her second time as head director of a show.
Loveland’s directing debut was this fall with, “The Fox on the Fairway,” by Ken Ludwig.
Loveland told NBToday, “I picked [Crazy Town] based on the description…In High School I performed a one act comedy by Jonathan Rand and I absolutely loved it so I really wanted to revisit his work ever since.”
Since the cast is so small, each of the talented student actors involved in this show will be featured in many different roles.
However, according to Dirkes, who will be making her Rutgers acting debut with “Crazy Town,” despite the demands of playing multiple roles, it is a “ very chill, laid back, stress-free environment.”
