EDISON, NJ–Two 22-year-old men were arrested February 24 and charged in connection with the death of 17-year-old girl named Rose Carlin, of Fords.
Carlin was found dead at the Hilton Garden Inn at Raritan Center one day earlier, on February 23.
Press releases from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office indicated that a drug overdose was suspected as the cause of death. Authorities said that an official cause of death will not be available until completion of an autopsy and toxicologically testing.
Andrew A. Lindo, of Somerset, and William A. King, Jr., of Edison, were each charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Hindering Apprehension and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
According to authorities, the charges of endangering and hindering were charged as third-degree crimes, while tampering is a fourth-degree crime.
Edison police referred all inquiries to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
In a press release, the prosecutor stated that both defendants’ bail was set at $75,000, cash or bond.
The reception officer at the Middlesex County Jail told Edison Now that King would be required to have a bail source hearing before his release – a hearing to determine the source of bail money. The officer had no explanation as to why this was being required for King and not Lindo.
Middlesex County Department of Corrections Sergeant Maria V. Resetar referred all inquiries to jail administration.
Third-degree crimes are punishable by 3-5 years in prison and fourth-degree crimes are punishable by up to 18 months in prison.
Neither defendant has a criminal record. Defendants who are convicted of third and fourth-degree offenses are entitled to a presumption against incarceration, and would normally receive a sentence of 1-5 years probation.
Pursuant to New Jersey sentencing laws, sentences for crimes committed as part of a single criminal transaction are combined and allowed to run consecutively.
