Brookside Avenue Resident Assaulted and Robbed in Alley Next to His Home

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Brunswick police are investigating an assault and robbery that occurred Thursday, January 22, at approximately 7:45 PM on Brookside Avenue, according to a Rutgers crime alert.

According to the alert, the victim is a resident of Brookside Avenue, who was assaulted by two men in an alley adjacent to his home, located between Freeman Street and Louis Street.

"He was approached by two male perpetrators who physically assaulted him and removed an item of value," reads the crime alert.

New Fast Casual Burger Restaurant Opens on George Street

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A new chain restaurant is officially open for business at 341 George Street as of Friday, January 23.

Located in the heart of downtown New Brunswick, in a space once occupied by Soho on George, "The Counter" will be open for lunch and dinner and also includes a full bar.

The restaurant is the chain's second location in New Jersey.  Other nearby locations are in Clifton and New York City.

New Club Hosts Panel Discussion Featuring Danish Editor Responsible For Controversial Cartoons

PISCATAWAY, NJ—After a thorough screening by Rutgers security officers, and then passing through a metal detector, attendees were treated to a panel discussion of free speech experts at the Livingston Student Center on Thursday, January 22.

Hosted by the new "Objectivist Club" at Rutgers and funded by the California-based Ayn Rand Institute, the event's tagline was “Freedom of Speech vs. the Tyranny of Silence.”

Rutgers Pharmacy Student From Pennsylvania Passes Away

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Aniesh Patel, a 22-year old fourth-year Rutgers pharmacy student died on January 13, one week before he was set to return to campus for another semester.

Aniesh Patel was a graduate of Methacton High School in Lower Providence, Pennsylvania.  At Rutgers University, Patel was completing his fourth year as a pharmacy student in a five-year program at the Rutgers Ernesto Mario School of Pharmacy.

Theatre Review: Rehearsal for Murder in Edison

EDISON, NJ—This reviewer is directly familiar with the commitment, the toil, and the expense that’s applied to a non-equity stage production.

Those who participate in it should be commended for the time they dedicate to keep local theater alive and vital.

That being said, Edison Valley’s choice to stage "Rehearsal for Murder" may not have been the most prudent of decisions.

State of Emergency Declared as Winter Storm Strikes East Coast

UPDATE (4PM): The city plans to tow all vehicles parked on major routes, and the Parking Authority has opened five of its decks (Wolfson, Wellness, Plum Street, Morris Street, and New Street), offerring free parking for city residents until the end of the emergency.

Rutgers University has also decided to cancel all classes tomorrow, Tuesday Januart 27, and plans to resume a regular schedule on Wednesday.
