NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—“Riot on the Dance floor: The Story of Randy Now and City Gardens,” a documentary about the iconic Trenton punk and indie music venue, will be screened at 7pm on January 31 in room #105 of Voorhees Hall on the Rutgers College Avenue campus.

This documentary, and a short piece entitled “Fur Peace Ranch: It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This,” by Andie Walla, will kick off the New Jersey Film Festival Spring 2015 season.

The festival will feature over 50 films in venues throughout New Brunswick, and the whole schedule can be found at http://www.njfilmfest.com.

“Riot on the Dance Floor” focuses on the impact the venue, “City Gardens,” had on the independent and punk music scene in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

It features interviews with Henry Rollins (Black Flag), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), and Dean Ween (Ween), and Jon Stewart, of The Daily Show, who was a bartender at the club.

The director, Steve Tozzi, will participate in a question and answer session after the screening, along with producer Peter Tabot and Randy “Now” Lewis, City Gardens booker and promoter.

After the film screening, an after party will be held at Court Tavern featuring The Scandals, Shades Apart, House of Others, The Wait, and Lost in Society.

The screening is open to all ages, but the after-party, which starts at 9pm, is only for those 21 and over.
