NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—At New Brunswick Today, we believe that the news should be free and accessible to anyone and everyone who wants it.

That’s why, with the help of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the Beacon Reader, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise $15,000 to expand the city’s only bilingual news operation.

We need your help to make this happen.

For the next thirty days, the Dodge Foundation will generously match any pledge made to New Brunswick Today through the Beacon Reader, up to $5,000.

New Brunswick Today launched in December 2011 as an online newspaper, and has been in print since November 2013.

Every day, our popular website and social media presence strive to improve the level of public discourse by spreading the real truth, for better or worse, about the city we love.

But, with tens of thousands of residents who don’t read English, and many more who prefer to watch online video or TV news, all too often we come up short.  Our crowdfunding campaign will enable us to bring our stories to the people who live in New Brunswick, through Spanish translations and in-depth video content.

Still, we have succeeded in spreading a whole lot of truth and improving the level of public discourse among our readership, which has steadily increased since 2012.

In fact, New Brunswick Today articles have already helped to achieve unprecedented changes to the way the city is policed, spark investigations into misconduct and election fixing, and expose corruption of the worst kind with our coverage of the city’s water quality coverup.

NBT has also been able to shine a light on great things that go on in our community and important changes that are coming up in the future.

We publish 10,000 copies of our bilingual, printed edition of NBToday, and distribute it for free in and around the city.

Five of the paper’s 24 pages are in Spanish, and more translated articles are available online, but that’s still not enough.

If we reach our fundraising goal, we will use the money to produce more video content and hire translators, so that every New Brunswick Today article can be translated into Spanish.

Any monthly subscription of $5 or more, or any one-time pledge of $30 or more, will secure you a subscription to our printed edition via US mail.

Other awards for generous backers include NBToday t-shirts and bumper stickers, as well as a poster-sized map of historic New Brunswick from 1910, and even tickets to our annual supporters dinner.
