NEW BRUNSWICK—Porfirio Nunez-Mosquea, a 27-year old resident of North Brunswick, was sentenced to serve up to 39 years in prison for the kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of a 20-year old woman.
As we have previously reported, Nunez-Mosquea grabbed a woman who was walking on Rutgers Street, near Livingston Avenue, and forced her into a van at gunpoint.
Nunez-Mozsquea took the victim to his basement apartment on Jersey Avenue in North Brunswick, attempted to sexually assault her, suffocated her when she resisted, and molested her before allowing her to leave.
According to a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, “Nunez-Mosquea was sentenced after he was convicted on May 22, 2014 on charges of kidnapping, attempted aggravated sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and terroristic threats.”
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office credited Lieutenant Todd Gerba of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) and Detective Thierry Lemmerling of the New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) for conducting the investigation that led to the arrest of Nunez-Mosquea, who was apprehended at his residence.
New Brunswick Superior Court Judge Diane Pincus ordered Nunez-Mozsqueq to serve 25 years for the kidnapping charge and an additional 7 years for the attempted aggravated sexual assault charge.
According to the press release, Judge Pincus says the defendant must serve 85% of the 32 years before he can be eligible for parole on those charges.
Judge Pincus imposed seven years for the certain persons weapons offense, sentencing him to serve five years without parole on that count.
Nunez-Mozaqueq must serve a total of 32 years before he is eligible for parole, according to the MCPO.
