NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) has named Monroe resident Michael Antoniades as the organization’s new Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Antoniades will oversee both the New Brunswick and Somerset campuses, according to a news release.

Although Antoniades was promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations in 2013, he joined RWJUH in 2011 as Vice President of Operations.

“Mike has demonstrated strong leadership, vision and a passion for delivering exceptional care to our patients since he arrived at RWJ,” said Stephen K. Jones, President and Chief Executive Officer of RWJUH and the Robert Wood Johnson Health System.

“He has proven to be a true partner with our faculty and community physicians, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey among our other partners. I am confident that Mike will continue to build upon our existing partnerships and form new ones to expand services and programs to meet the changing needs of the diverse communities we serve.”

When Antoniades initially joined RWJ in 2011, he provided oversight for multiple clinical and support areas, the strategic direction and development of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital and additional programmatic functions, including cardiovascular services, women’s services, ambulatory services and the hospital’s transplant programs.

“When you step on our academic medical campus, you become keenly aware of the passion and drive to expand the boundaries of medicine and deliver innovative, quality care to our patients,” Antoniades said.

“I am excited to lead our team and work with our partners as we continue to bring residents of our state and region some of the finest academic medicine available anywhere in the United States.”

In a March 2013 video published by NJBiz, Antoniades spoke proudly about the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, and the adjacent PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital, which he called “one of the largest rehab hospital’s in the nation.”

“As recently as the last six months we have also become the only pediatric trauma center in the state – which speaks to the level of care that we provide and want to provide for the children,” Antoniades points out.

“When you look at the state of NJ there is about 2 million kids, over the last 10 – 11 years Robert Wood Johnson pediatric academic health campus has grown to be the largest one in NJ and the… the only pediatric health campus in the state of NJ,” said Antoniades.

“We have our principal partner in the RWJ medical school.  We have the research pavilion the Child Health Institute and we have the Ronald McDonald House and Embrace Kids [Foundation] both supporting our cause – to care for kids,” he said.

Prior to his employment at RWJ, Antoniades was Vice President of Operations at University Medical Center at Princeton from 2007-2010.

Before his position at Princeton, Antoniades served as Vice President of Operations, Director of Operations and Director of Facilities Management at St. Vincent’s Midtown Hospital in New York City from 1999 to 2007, according to the release.

Antoniades earned his Master’s of Public Administration from Rutgers University in 2008 and his Bachelor of Science in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2006.

He is currently a member of the American College of Health Executives and the Association of Healthcare Executives of New Jersey.
