TRENTON, NJ—Twenty-two-year-old Rutgers student Billy Roy Ouch was killed after being struck by a 2006 Mazda on Route 129 in his hometown of Trenton.

The incident occurred on Monday, December 22 at approximately 9:15pm, where Ouch appears to have been crossing Route 129 at Lalor Street against the light, according to an article written by Keith Brown of Times of Trenton.

Ouch was pronounced dead at 9:50pm.  There is no information on the driver available at this time.

The incident is being investigated by Detective Craig Kirk and Anthony Abarno of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ouch was a senior and Educational Opportunity Fund student at Rutgers University, pursuing a degree in Environmental Science.  According to his Facebook page, he worked at Dunkin Donuts.

He was remembered by his peers as a kind, and respectful young man who cared about people and his community.

“You are the older brother to me in maturity and you are so wise for your age. You are envyingly intelligent, a genius surpassing your peers, surpassing me. I envied that and I was proud that you were, wrote Ouch’s sister, Kera, on his Facebook page, which has become a makeshift memorial.

“You went to my alma mata. You could have attended any other school you were accepted to…but you chosed Rutgers, for me. Thank you,” Kera wrote.

Ouch’s loved ones held a candle light vigil the day after he passed on Lalor Street, located in the South Ward of Trenton, near the site of the accident.

Services for Ouch will be held at Preah Buddha Rangsey Temple on 2400 South 6th Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Friday December 26th at 3:00pm, and a traditional Buddhist ceremony on Saturday December 27 at 9:00am.

The family encourages loved ones to attend the ceremony on Saturday if they are not able to attend both.

Unlike traditional American funerals, Buudhist ceremonies are three separate events: one on the day after passing, one on the 7th day after passing, and one on the 100th day after passing.

Due to these expenses, the Ouch family is asking for donations for Billy’s 100th day traditional Buddhist ceremony, to be held in March.

Anyone interested in donating is asked to contact Billy’s older sister, Kera, at [email protected].
