NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Michael J. Murray, a Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences student, passed away this weekend, according to Richard L. Edwards, Chancellor of the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus.

“The Rutgers community is saddened by this tragic news, and we offer our thoughts and prayers to Michael’s family and to all his friends,” Edwards states in the email.

Michael Murray, a resident of Califon Borough in Hunterdon County, transferred to Rutgers in 2013 from the County College of Morris.

Murray was on track to graduate with a degree in computer science this semester.  The Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences has announced that Murray will be awarded with a posthumous degree at commencement.

According to the email, the Murray family asked Chancellor Edwards to inform the Rutgers community that the wake for Michael will be on Friday, December 19, between 5:00 and 8:00 pm, at the Coughlin Funeral Home at 15 Academy Street in Califon.

Murray is the fifth Rutgers student to pass away this semester, and the second in the span of one week.
