NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On Sunday November 23 at 7:30PM, the city’s historic State Theatre will host the Association of Indians at Rutgers’ (AIR) 28th annual show entitled, “Vishwas, Belief In A Better World.”

The doors will open at 7pm and tickets will be sold for $10 for Rutgers Students and $12 for everyone else.

The Association of Indians at Rutgers was formed about 60 years ago, as the first South Asian Organization at Rutgers.  It is now the umbrella that all the other South Asian organizations fall under.  Current AIR President Dhruv Patel’s father was also president of AIR during his own time at Rutgers.

Along with AIR Social and AIR Garba, AIR Show is a time when almost all the South Asian groups, including Indian fraternities and sororities, as well as dance teams and other performance-based groups, come together to put on the best show possible.

The many performances will include dance as well as skits, music, or whatever else the talented and creative members of the different groups decide to do.

Groups set to perform at this year’s event include:

  • Nuttin’ But V.O.C.A.L.S.
  • Delta Epsilon Psi | Kappa Chapter
  • Rutgers University, Iota Nu Delta Fraternity, Inc..
  • Beta Chi Theta – Sigma Chapter
  • Sigma Beta Rho – Rutgers University Theta Chapter
  • Delta Sigma Iota – Delta Chapter
  • Rutgers S.A.P.A.
  • Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. RUNB Colony
  • Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc. – Omicron Colony
  • RU Natya
  • RU Dhol Effect
  • Rutgers Jhoom Dynamix
  • Rutgers Indian Christian Fellowship
  • RU Swara

AIR is also involved in the show, coordinating committees for Rutgers students who want to be involved in AIR show but aren’t necessarily involved in South Asian organizations that are participating in the show.

The committees that are run by the AIR board are fashion show, interest dance, and interest script.

For this year’s AIR Show, Interest script and dance will be collaborating together to create a miniature Broadway-Bollywood style show filled with acting and dancing: the theme will be love over the years, so it will focus on how the ideas of love, relationships and dating have changed throughout time, while showcasing the music from our parents’ generation up to the present day!

Last, and not certainly not least, AIR Show always features a guest performer and this year it will be Chai Town, an accapella group from Chicago.

The cleverly-named group has a new album just released: “Brew Print.”

Past Airshow guest performers include Jay Sean and Arjun, a popular YouTube singer who writes his own mash-ups of English and Indian music and original pieces.
