NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Comedy star Chris Tucker received a standing ovation after performing to a nearly sold-out crowd at the Hub City’s historic State Theatre on Saturday, October 25.

Tucker’s films have made him one of the most successful comedic actors of his time.  According to his website, “In 2006 he negotiated an unprecedented $25 million salary to appear in Rush Hour 3, which at the time made him the highest-paid actor in Hollywood.”

The headliner came out to flashing lights, a smoke screen, music from the late James Brown, and a compilation of his most noted movies including the Rush Hour series, Friday, Money Talks, The Fifth Element, and Dead Presidents.

Tucker opened up the show talking about the frustrations he experiences being a celebrity in the modern era, where cameras are literally at the tip of everyone’s fingers.

“I wish I was famous in the 50’s when everyone ain’t have a camera phone. Why you need to take picture? Can’t you just remember shit?”

“And stop talkin’ to me on planes! If something happens, I want to wake up in heaven.”

He joked about the Ebola scare in the New York and New Jersey area, but then mentioned the beauty of Africa that is usually not mentioned in media or news reports.

When Chris wasn’t making movies, he was traveling to different countries, including a trip to Africa that President Bill Clinton invited him on.

“Africa is beautiful. I’ve been there lots of times,” Tucker said.

The comedic star made fun of police, his co-stars on the silver screen, and his own financial problems during his set.

“Cops are childish man. They hiding in the woods waiting for you to speed. Childish! Then they get out the car talking to you like they yo daddy. Then they ask you stupid questions, ‘Why was you speeding?’”

“Because I didn’t see you! If I saw you I’d slow down!”

Tucker poked fun at his co-stars Jackie Chan in Rush Hour, Ice Cube from the movie Friday, and Charlie Sheen in Money Talks.

“I’m not doing another Friday because Ice Cube didn’t even pay me for the first one!  He gave me some CD’s and some weed,” jokes Tucker.

“Charlie Sheen made me look good. I’d show up late, and Charlie wouldn’t show up at all!”

Tucker also joked about his financial issues with the Internal Revenue Service.

“Thank y’all for coming out and helping me with my taxes. I know y’all heard about it… TMZ telling everyone how much I owe. They don’t know how much I owe! I don’t even know how much I owe!”

“That’s the last time I let Wesley Snipes help me out with my taxes.”

Famous actor Wesley Snipes has served time in a maximum security federal prison for being found guilty of three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file income tax returns.

Tucker told the audience that he fell into financial problems by splurging on cars and houses when he was young after making millions of dollars on his movies.

“I bought two houses right next to each other. I was my own neighbor!”

“People told me to save my money for a rainy day. I said, ‘Shoot it’s raining now, I want me a Ferrarri!”

Tucker joked he would soon be splitting an apartment with Toni Braxton and Jermaine Dupri, two legendary musicians who have also had financial problems.

The comedian spoke about how his family’s reaction to his financial gains affected how he trusts people when it comes to money.

“You ever lend somebody money and they get an attitude when you ask for it back? Now when people ask for money, I take a picture.”

“I don’t even trust McDonald’s. They got two windows. One where you pay and one where you get the food. How do I know that the next window ain’t another store?! I tell ‘em to go to the second window, get my food, and bring it back to first window,” joked Tucker.

At 43 years old, Tucker is single, but says he has been thinking about marriage.

“I want to get married, but I’m scared. I just started making money. I’m not trying to lose it. Marriage is sometimes a bad business deal.”

Tucker has been dating. He shared his experiences with different types of women that he says he would not usually date.

“I dated a ghetto girl once,” said Tucker.“I was scared the whole time we was dating. While we was having sex she said, ‘Close ya eyes.’  I said, ‘People know where I’m at.’”

Tucker said he once dated a girl that was five years younger than him.

“That’s a whole ‘nother generation. We was making love, and she had her phone in her hand, tweetin’!”

“I dated a white woman too. She taught me how to show up on time. Got me hooked on Starbucks. She was a little racist though. She would say things like ‘Chris, you can’t play basketball everyday.’ ‘Chris, if you wanna lose weight, stop eating chicken!’”

Tucker also did a tribute to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, telling stories of his visit to Neverland, and singing and dancing in memory of the legend.

Tucker played Jackson’s comrade in the musical genius’s music video “Rock my World.”

Throughout the entire show, Tucker showcased his comedic versatility by doing impressions of many of the celebrities already mentioned such as Bill Clinton, Jackie Chan, and Toni Braxton, as well as other famous people like Jesse Jackson, Tiger Woods, Jay-Z, Barack Obama, Toby Keith, Charlie Wilson, and Anita Baker.

Chris Tucker has five shows left on his tour performing at theaters in Alabama, Texas, Michigan, and Maryland.  He also announced that he has a new movie coming out soon.
