NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Longtime Congressman Frank Pallone had cancelled a “town hall” planned for Thursday, October 23, at the regularly scheduled Rutgers student government meeting.
The Rutgers University Student Assembly (RUSA) announced the cancellation in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 22nd.
“We are disappointed to announce U.S Representative Frank Pallone will not be holding his Town Hall this Thursday due to schedule conflicts,” read the  announcement on the Rutgers University Student Assembly’s Facebook page.
“However, we are excited for the reschedule and look forward to working with him.”
A Facebook event for the town hall had been cancelled days earlier, on Sunday evening.
In response to questioning, Pallone’s office stated that the Congressman had a scheduling conflict “that would prevent him from being able to get there.”
The office staff did not answer questions on the nature of the event, telling New Brunswick Today that the Congressman’s schedule is not typically discussed or released.Â
Pallone’s district includes parts of Monmouth and Middlesex County, stretching down the Jersey Shore all the way from Asbury Park, and also including New Brunswick, Plainfield, and Woodbridge. He hails from Long Branch.
Because of the way that the district is designed, Democrats like Pallone have a distinct advantage.
Pallone has served in Congress since 1989, and is running for a fourteenth term in the upcoming November 4 election, where he faces two challengers: Republican Anthony Wilkinson and Libertarian Dorit Goikhman.Â
Thus far, Pallone has raised over $2 million for the coming election.
