NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police responded to a shooting in a home at the corner of Lee Avenue and Sandford Street, at approximately 7:52 pm this evening.

A caller had reported one man was shot, but police could immediately locate the victim, who may have been in a pickup truck en route to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

“We got a lot ofpeople screaming here.  There’s a lot of blood, and we can’t find the guy,” said one of the first officers to arrive to the scene, inside the home at 143 Lee Avenue.

The incident came around the same time that a call came in from the North Brunswick police, saying that a witness in that town had heard shots and saw someone put someone else in a red pickup truck, before headed towards Livingston Avenue.

Soon after, an officer spotted a red truck pulling up to a New Brunswick hospital, with blood in the backseat.

“I got a red pickup, [with a Maryland license plate]… in front of Robert Wood. It’s got blood in the backseat and they just ran into the hospital,” said one officer.

At one point, dispatchers said the suspect, who it appears was not immediately apprehended, was described as “a shorter [black] male wearing all dark clothing.”

“He took off behind the funeral home and ran behind it,” said a dispatcher.
