NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Saturday, October 17, beginning at 9:30 am, the New Brunswick 4-H will be kicking off the first installment of “4-H Science Saturdays” at the Unity Square Community Center at 81 Remsen Avenue.

The event will last until noon, and represents a partnership between Bristol Myers Squibb and science educators at the Rutgers 4-H department.

Children and families will have the opportunity to experience unique science projects.  Youth in grades 4-7 must commit to attending one Saturday session per month over the next six months, where they will interact with scientists and perform exciting science experiments.

Laura Eppinger, a program associate with the 4H, is excited to bring this program to the New Brunswick community.

“Youth get the chance to explore science in a hands-on way,” Eppinger told New Brunswick Today.

“We are really excited about this program because it is the first time that Middlesex County is hosting it and it’s going to be right here in New Brunswick.”

This event is free and open to the public, but advanced registration is required.  Slots are still available. You can register by calling (848) 932-7623.

The New Brunswick 4-H is an extention of the Middlesex County 4-H and has worked exclusively in New Brunswick for the past 3 years.

Primarily focused on youth development and empowerment, the New Brunswick 4-H hosts several after school clubs at the public library and Unity Square.

The 4-H prides itself on its varied offerings; children and teenagers can enjoy everything from community service and leadership clubs, dance and fitness groups, a robotics club, and even a handicrafts group where knitting and crocheting skills are taught by an experienced instructor.

In addition to that, the New Brunswick 4-H offers many free special events through out the year.

Upcoming events include a Spooky Craft Night at the New Brunswick Public Library at 60 Livingston Avenue on Thursday, October 23 from 7-8:30pm and the annual Trick or Trunk event at Lord Stirling School Community School at 101 Redmond Street on October 31 from 4:30-6:30pm.
