NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Jorge “King” Diaz, born and raised in New Brunswick and a proud NBHS graduate, has enjoyed great success as a professional boxer, and is now preparing for a Friday night bout in the Ukranian Cultural Center at 135 Davison Avenue in Somerset.

The fight will take place on Friday, October 24, where Diaz will be fighting Jose Haro as part of GH3 Promotions’ “Friday Night Fights” undercard.  Eight other fights will also take place making for an action packed night.

Observers say it could be the beginning of a new chapter for Diaz.

Diaz has had a lot of ups and downs over the last few years and feels like he has come full circle.  Now a father now and recently re-united with his old trainer Steve Rivera, who trained Diaz at the very beginning of his career, Diaz is looking to get back to his winning ways.

He was undefeated for most of his profesional career and was once thought of as one of boxing’s toughest and most talented young prospects.

After a few tough losses, it was back to the drawing board.  Diaz had to take a step back and do some rebuilding. Not only with his life but with his career as well, in order for him to move forward.

Diaz says he is feeling very confident and positive about his upcoming fight against Haro.

This will be Diaz’s second fight back with Rivera and he says, “Steve’s got me boxing better than I’ve ever boxed my entire career.”

“I feel better than ever,” he says. “I feel like i can jump in the shower and not get wet”.

Diaz has a professional record of 18 wins  and 3 losses, and has gone from fighting in the streets of New Brunswick on to fighting in venues such as the New Brunswick Boxing Gym, Madison Square Garden, where he fought seven times, and even in Yankee Stadium and Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.

Diaz says he is still learning, but has become a smarter and overall better boxer over the past few years.  He’s been training hard: running, sparring, working out, and doing just about everything else to get in top physical shape.

Diaz feels he has the talent, the heart, and the determination to become a world champion, and he is ready to prove anyone wrong who feels otherwise.

In June 2013, Diaz made the world rankings for the first time in his career, coming in at No.14 in the WBA ratings.  A lot has changed for Diaz since then and he feels that now is the time for him to show the world what he is really made of.

He bounced back with a win against Ramon Ellis in his last fight back in July and has to continue to win in order to be able to contend for a shot at a world title.

Diaz sparred for eight rounds with another fighter at a gym in Paterson earlier this month and is looking sharp, confident and ready for his upcoming bout.

Diaz was in great spirits and spoke very positively about his outlook on life, his boxing career, and Friday night’s important bout.

The doors open at 6pm and the first fight is scheduled for 7:15pm on Friday, October 24.  Ticket information is available at eventrolite.com or by calling (732) 469-1018.
