PISCATAWAY, NJ—A memorial for Caitlyn Kovacs, a Rutgers student who passed away last month, has been scheduled for Saturday, October 11, from 2-5pm at the Busch Campus Center on Bartholemew Road.

Kovacs was a popular sophomore at Rutgers, pursuing a major in Animal Science, and also had many friends from her hometown of South Brunswick, where her parents reside in the Monmouth Junction section.

Kovacs graduated from South Brunswick High School, where she was a journalist with the school newspaper, “The Viking Vibe.”

She was remembered fondly by friends as a postive spirit and a great friend, as well as an animal lover.

Kovacs cared for dogs at her job, working for Brenda Janner at Beg ‘n Bark, a pet-sitting business based in Princeton.

“We deeply regret the tragic loss of one of our most valued and respected workers, Caitlyn Kovacs,” reads an announcement on her employer’s website.

“We will miss her. She touched the lives of many people and many animals. Caitlyn was passionate about her work and truly cared for her clients and their pets.”

“My passion for animal welfare flourished after I adopted my now 4 year old calico kitty, Dakota,” wrote Kovacs in her biography on the Beg ‘n Bark website.  “I soon after began volunteering and fostering for a local shelter, learning so much about animals as well as all the possibilities the field could bring me.”

“I hope to live my life being a voice for those who do not have one,” she wrote.

Danny France, a friend of Kovacs, is organizing the memorial event, which was moved to a larger venue in anticipation of a large crowd.

“This is for all of her friends and family to come out in remembrance of such a beautiful young girl who lost her life. All proceeds will go to the Kovacs family,” reads a Facebook event page for the memorial.

“There will be live music and anyone is welcome to do a reading. Please come out and donations will be greatly appreciated.”

France asked that anyone with pictures of Kovacs they would like to be used in collages for the event to please send them to France via Facebook or email them to [email protected].

As we reported last month, Kovacs passed away after appearing to be in distress at a small gathering at the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity house on College Avenue in New Brunswick.

She was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital by her friends, but was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:19 a.m.  Authorities are still investigating her death.
