NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Peter Ludlow, a Northwestern University professor accused of sexually assaulting a student, is no longer being considered for a position at Rutgers University.

As we reported in March, the renowned professor of philosophy was a candidate for a position in Rutgers’ department of philosophy earlier this year.

But sexual assault allegations made by a former student against Ludlow led to an outcry from students at Rutgers including a new organization called Women Organizing Against Harassment (WOAH).

The University eventually decided against hiring Ludlow to the Rutgers Philosophy Department, which is considered one of the best in the nation.

“We were very relieved to hear that Peter Ludlow would not be teaching at Rutgers,” said Chelsea Andino, leader of WOAH.  “However WOAH was not protesting the individual but instead taking an opportunity on the scandal to promote safer hiring practices at Rutgers and other universities,”

According to the Daily Northwestern, the student newspaper of Northwestern University, Rutgers had requested information about the accusations from Ludlow’s attorney.  But that information was not provided, causing Rutgers to decide not to hire Ludlow.

According to the Chicago Reader, a female undergraduate student filed a lawsuit against Ludlow in February of this year, accusing him of sexually assaulting her.

The student also filed a lawsuit against Northwestern, alleging that the university mishandled her original complaint against Ludlow.
