NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—City police are are investigating a crash involving a 5-year old boy from New Brunswick, who was riding a scooter near the Lord Stirling Community School.
The boy was struck near the intersection of Welton Street and Throop Avenue by a red 2001 Dodge van driven by a 53-year-old city woman, Aidi Miranda, who remained at the scene and was not charged.
"At approximately 5:45 pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 the five year old boy rode his scooter from the loading dock driveway of Lord Stirling Elementary School into the oncoming traffic of Throop Avenue," reads the official NBPD press statement.
According to the official story, Miranda's vehicle struck the boy and his scooter as he crossed in front of the moving vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that the boy was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
