Public Library Using $10K Grant to Host Community Programs

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Public Library will use a $10,000 LibraryLinkNJ grant to host programs for the community such as sewing, knitting and crocheting, jewelry making, paper crafts, and rainbow looms.

Young Adult Librarian Rosy Henderson said the library hopes to host open houses this summer and launch the new programs this fall.

“We're definitely going to be doing open houses so everyone is familiar with what we have,” Henderson said.

22-Story Highrise Apartment Complex Approved For New Street

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A 22-story tower is set to rise over New Street, the latest in a neighborhood full of recent housing developments, such as Rockoff Hall, The Heldrich and The George.

At the May 13 Planning Board meeting, board members unanimously approved a project with more units than had been previously approved for the site in 2009.

Currently, the site is home to two abandoned buildings that likely were built in the 19th century, including the former New Brunswick Counseling Center at 84 New Street, and a vacant lot.

Coach Don Sofilkanich Comes Full Circle, Returning to NBHS Football Program

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—At a time when the the struggling New Brunswick High School football team needs all the help it can get, some say they finally have something to be happy about: a new head coach.

Don Sofilkanich will replace Castor Losada as the team's head coach in the 2014 season.  A graduate of East Brunswick High School, Sofilkanich spent many years as an assistant coach under NBHS' John Quinn.

Annual Summer Film Festival Kicks Off at Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Thursday, May 29, Rutgers annual summer film festival began with a screening of Steven Speilberg's "Jaws" in Scott Hall.

A joint venture between the Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center brings film festivals to campus each spring, summer and fall, featuring dozens of films,  as well as lectures, workshops and panels on cinematic and the film industry.
