NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—According to a press release from the New Brunswick Police Department, at approximately 2:15am this morning, New Brunswick police responded to a reported stabbing that occurred in the area of French Street and Bayard Street.

The victim, who has been identified as 27-year-old Cheniz Lopez, of Bound Brook, New Jersey, received several stab wounds on the left side of his body as well as lacerations on his face.

Lopez was taken from the scene to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he was treated for non life- threatening injuries.

Police said that they believed the incident stemmed from an initial altercation between members of each family during weeks prior.

Following the incident, two suspects who are believed to be cousins were immediately arrested at the scene, Florandino and Rafael Queros.  Both are age 21 and from neighboring Edison Township.

Three other suspects were arrested in a taxi cab headed for Edison shortly thereafter.

The three suspects arrested in the cab were Amador Ramirez, 19, Regulo Ramirez, 26, and Rosalino Guerrero,26, all of Edison.  It is not known currently whether or not Amador and Regulo Ramirez are related.

All five suspects are being held and charged for Aggravated Assault and Riot. They are each also being held on $75,000 bail each.

This is at least the second stabbing incident in the past three days.  As we reported, at least three people were injured, two of them with stab wounds, Saturday evening at 8pm.

A restaurant at the intersection of French and Bayard, the same corner where last night’s incident occurred, was the scene of a shooting in January, as we reported at the time.
