UPDATE (8:19PM): Authorities have not identified the victim, except to say that she is a 50-year-old woman from Crosswicks, NJ.
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—According to the New Brunswick Parking Authority, police are investigating a potential suicide at the 11-story Plum Street Parking Deck.
‘There was a body found on the sidewalk early this morning,” said NBPA Executive Director Mitch Karon.  “It appears it was a jumper…police conducting an investigation.”
The body was found around 3:45am, according to a press release from the City of New Brunswick.
According to a Nixle alert issued by the city’s police department at 7:09am, the deck is closed temporarily.
“All deck patrons will be diverted to other city decks for today’s use. Please expect delays while commuting into New Brunswick.”
Karon told New Brunswick Today the only similar tragedy he recalls involving a New Brunswick parking garage occurred more than a decade ago when “a young man jumped from the New Street Deck.”
In 2010, police saved a suicidal 19-year-old man who was threatening to jump from the Plum Street garage, pulling him to safety, according to the Star-Ledger’s Tom Haydon.
