Screaming Females Singer Begins Mural on Plum Street Parking Garage

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Marissa Paternoster, lead guitarist and singer of Screaming Females, has so far painted two big bird-looking creatures on the side of the parking deck, located at Plum Street and Prospect Street.

Joe Steinhardt, founder of New Brunswick based record label Don Giovanni Records, has been working closely with the city's growing non-profit organization coLAB Arts on developing this public art project.

George Street Playhouse Hosts Theatrical Event Focused on New Brunswick Community

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—In January 1938, at a renowned New Jersey theater some twenty miles from The George Street Playhouse, "Our Town" celebrated its first public performance.

Now, 76 years later,  the play about the people of Grover’s Corner, New Hampshire has been re-worked by another celebrated New Jersey theater, in collaboration with its local community.

Medicare Quality Contract Recipient Says Depression Screening is Underutilized in Wake of Hurricane Sandy

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Healthcare Quality Strategies, Inc. (HQSI), New Jersey’s recipient of Medicare quality improvement contracts for the past three decades, issued a report regarding behavioral health issues in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

New Brunswick was included as one of ten municipalities profiled within the report.

Nicole Skywer-Brandwene, a clinical program manager at HQSI, said the nature of the company’s work involves helping hospitals, nursing homes, and doctor’s offices to improve healthcare quality and access.

Georges Road Liquor Store Owner Pistol-Whipped in Robbery Attempt

UPDATE (6/17): On Saturday June 14, police apprehended 48-year-old Edwin Santiago-Soto, of New Brunswick, just a few blocks away at Commercial Avenue near Comstock Street and charged him with Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in association with this crime. His bail has been set at $100,000.00.

Kean and LeGrand Speak at Rutgers Commencement Ceremony

PISCATAWAY, NJ—Yesterday, Rutgers University hosted its largest commencement ceremony in the school's 248-year history, graduating over 16,000 students in total at the school's football stadium.

Local hero Eric LeGrand, a Rutgers football player whose career-ending spinal cord injury left him paralyzed, was among the graduating class, and given the floor to address his classmates.

One Man Dead, Another Injured in Hale Street Shooting

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–At 12:42am last night, police responded to reports of five shots in the Second Ward neighborhood.

Within minutes, the crime scene was located at a home at 177 Hale Street, located near the intersection with Remsen Avenue.  Two victims had been hit.

City resident Gregorio Hernandez, age 28, was in bad shape, according to police radio transmissions.  He was pronounced dead at 1:08 a.m. at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
