NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–At 12:42am last night, police responded to reports of five shots in the Second Ward neighborhood.

Within minutes, the crime scene was located at a home at 177 Hale Street, located near the intersection with Remsen Avenue.  Two victims had been hit.

City resident Gregorio Hernandez, age 28, was in bad shape, according to police radio transmissions.  He was pronounced dead at 1:08 a.m. at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Hernandez is the third man to be reported murdered in New Brunswick this year.

The other victim, a 23-year-old man who Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office did not identify, was shot in the back according to the police radio transmissions.  He was treated and released.

Police described a potential suspect as a Hispanic male wearing a grey sweatshirt running towards Lee Avenue after the shooting.
