Rutgers Lecture Discusses the Future of Journalism

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Richard Reeves, a professor at the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Southern California, visited Rutgers University on March 27 to speak about the dynamic environment of modern journalism.

Reeves is a syndicated columnist and has worked for notable publications such as the New York Times, New Yorker, and Esquire magazine, as well as authored several books.

NJTransit and Rutgers Launch Program to Help People with Disabilities

NEWARK, NJ—People with certain disabilities who don't know how to get around on New Jersey Transit (NJT) and other transportation systems, can learn how, thanks to a new collaboration between NJT and Rutgers University.

The two organizations have teamed up to create a new program, NJTIP@Rutgers, which gives people guides to teach them, either one-on-one or in small groups.

Massive Hospital Expansion Moving Forward: Two Towers Planned For French Street

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The first of two new towers is under construction at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, as part of plans approved by the city Planning Board last year.

The first phase of the project, a 7-story parking garage, topped with two stories of hospital offices, was approved in May.

This project is being built on an 8.35 acre property that was mostly occupied by a gravel parking lot, and was once eyed as a site for a towering research facility.

Weeklong Hub City Music Festival Raises Funds For City Soup Kitchen

NEW BRUNSWCK, NJ—The Hub City Music Festival, a series of local concerts to benefit Elijah's Promise, will be running for its second annual year starting on Saturday April 5.

Performances are set to kick off 9 pm this Saturday at the Court Tavern, and will run over the next week, leading up to the final show 8 pm on Saturday April 12 at World of Beer.

Other venues participating include a popular new bar and restaurant called Destination Dogs, Hidden Grounds coffee shop, the Crossroads Theatre, and the soup kitchen itself.

Rutgers Cancer Institute Receives $4.25M Grant to Research Innovative Clinical Treatments

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Recently, the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (RCINJ) secured a $4.25 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to research innovative methods for treating for cancer patients with a variety of diagnoses.

By teaming up with researchers from the University of Wisconsin's Carbone Center, RCINJ joined forces with an institution that are effective on a national scale to provide testing for newer methods of cancer treatment.

17-Year-Old Female Found Dead in North Brunswick Cemetery

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ—The body of a 17-year-old New Brunswick girl was discovered early Wednesday morning in Elmwood Cemetery, near the border between New Brunswick and North Brunswick.

Just 10 hours later, Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey issued a one-paragraph statement saying there was no reason to believe there was foul play:

Theatre Review: Wrong Window at Villagers

FRANKLIN, NJ—The current local theater season isn’t suffering from a lack of dark comedies.

Villagers Theater made its own contribution to the genre with Billy Van Zant and Jane Milmore’s crowd pleasing Wrong Window.

Stage and screenwriting partners, Van Zant and Milmore hail from in New Jersey, and are among the most-produced playwriting teams in the world.
