Johnson and Johnson Broadcasts Annual Shareholder Meeting

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Big Pharma giant Johnson and Johnson is holding its annual shareholder meeting on this morning amid protests over the company's pelvic mesh implants at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Brunswick.

The protests began with a press conference call at 11 am on April 23rd, where survivors of the mesh implants, along with supporters of those survivors explained their request for a congressional investigation.

Mysterious BOE Candidate Apparently Involved in Questionable School Transport Operation

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—In the third school board election in city history, voters will suffer from a shortage of candidates to choose from, including one whose credentials and sources of income are a mystery.

Last year, a total of twelve candidates sought election to five open seats on the school board, which had previously been appointed by the city's mayor for over a century.

But this year, there are only three candidates seeking the three open seats on the board, effectively leaving voters without a choice.

$197 Million Board of Education Budget Up For Public Vote

Editor's Note: Registered voters can vote in today's school election at their regular polling locations between 7am and 9pm.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Voters in the Hub City will decide whether to give their seal of approval to the New Brunswick Board of Education's 2014-2015 budget, as approved at the board's March 25 meeting.

The $198 million budget, and in particular the $27 million to be raised from local property taxes, will be put to city voters tomorrow in the form of a ballot question.

Public Library Hosts “Composting 101” Policy Potluck

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–There is going to be an info session about composting, and potluck dinner tonight from 6pm-8pm at the New Brunswick Free Public Library, located at 60 Livingston Avenue.

This event has been sponsored by Elijah’s Promise, the New Brunswick Community Food Alliance, and the New Brunswick Environmental Commission. 

As Earth Day rolls around, it is important to not only celebrate, but make a commitment to change.  Food waste is an astronomical problem that can be reduced with simple lifestyle changes.

Free ESL Lessons for Adults in the City While RU Students Receive Credit in Fall 2014

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Free adult ESL classes are available through various parts of the city thanks to a Rutgers University course and a recently formed community-based project that has been making great strides in building relationships within the New Brunswick community.

The classes themselves are free for any adult who wishes to practice their English as a Second Language. They are available at various locations including the New Brunswick Free Public Library, Youth Empowerment Services, and New Labor.

New Brunswick Celebrates Urban Clean-Up Week

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The City of New Brunswick will host a number of cleanup events in honor of Urban Clean-Up week, which spans from April 21-27.

These will include litter cleanups at various locations throughout the city, as well as opportunities for residents to recycle electronics and obtain free compost, mulch and flowers.

Monday, April 21 is Make Your Storefront Look Great Day. Volunteers will help businesses remove litter from the storefront, wash sidewalks, and remove graffiti and clean windows.
