NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A Middlesex County-based good government organization is hosting a statewide environmental conference on the fourth floor of Rutgers University’s Alexander Library tonight at 6pm.

“Hear from leading experts who are working on the front lines to address environmental issues and implement solutions,” reads an announcement of the event on the Citizens Campaign website.

“Participate in an interactive discussion focused on how the media, particularly local reporters & citizens journalists can cover these issues.”

“This conference will highlight innovative programs that are empowering citizens to clean up their air, drinking water and contaminated plots of land without having to rely on the political establishment,” said Heather Taylor, longtime spokesperson for The Citizens Campaign.

“We will provide the tools and knowledge that citizens need to plant the seeds for these green initiatives to grow in other cities throughout the state and nation.”

The event will feature “an interactive discussion focused on how the media, particularly local reporters & citizens journalists can cover these issues.”

Ana Baptista, the Director of Environmental & Planning Programs at Ironbound Community Corporation, will be giving the keynote remarks.

Following the speech, Randall Soloman, a former city resident who is an integral part of the popular Sustainable Jersey program, will moderate a panel discussion featuring three participants:

  • Dr. Nicky Sheats, Director of the Center for the Urban Environment at Thomas Edison State College
  • Andy Kricun, Executive Director of the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority
  • Robert Spiegel, Executive Director of the Edison Wetlands Association

The event is free and open to the public and will include refreshments beginning at 5:30pm. The event will begin at 6pm.
