NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A gender-themed art exhibit is coming to Voorhees Mall on the Rutgers University campus in April, and organizers are currently seeking artwork to put on display in the heavily-trafficked area.

The exhibit will have accommodations for all media types and submissions are welcome from all New Brunswick residents. Each artist can submit up to 3 pieces of work, and organizers say the submissions should address stereotypes or myths about gender, equality, and love.

Titled “REVEAL,” the exhibit’s name is an acronym for Re-assessing Everyday Views on Equality, Assumptions & Love.

Opening night for the exhibit is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2 from 7:30-10pm.

Vera Hinsey, a student curating the first-of-its-kind exhibit, hopes that it becomes a Rutgers tradition.

Hinsey says it is the first gender-themed art show to be hosted by the Art Library. The art exhibit is also sponsored by the Institute for Women’s Leadership and by RAFT (Rutgers Association for Feminist Training), a feminist artist collective.

Hinsey told New Brunswick Today that the upcoming exhibit, “feels like the culminaton of my last four years of studying feminism, feminist art, and activism. I want to bring what I have learned to a wider audiance by currating this show.”

Hinsey is Rutgers senior majoring in Women’s and Gender Studies with a focus in Anthropology, Spanish and Feminist Art.

Any artists interested in submitting pieces for the exhibit are asked to contact Hinsey via email at [email protected].Â
