NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The city’s historic State Theatre is celebrating their customers with three free movie screenings on Saturday, February 1.

At 10am, the day starts off with the kid-friendly film “Wreck-it-Ralph,” an animated comedy about a villain who longs to be a hero and all of his misadventures along the way.

Next is a screening of The Avengers, a movie based off of the Marvel Comic superhero team of the same name.  The Avengers screening begins at 1pm.

For the final free film of the day, the State Theatre conducted an online vote to allow customers to choose from five potential free films.

The winner of the “customer’s choice award” was “Dirty Dancing,” the 1987 film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

Playing at 5pm, Dirty Dancing is “a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of a Catskill mountains resort during the summer of 1963,” according to the State Theatre’s website.

The free screenings are a part of a larger celebration: the Hub City Carnivale, hosted by the State Theatre throughout the month of February.

Among the Hub City Carnivale events are several free family friendly events on Presidents Day, February 17.

That same day, the Big Apple Circus will be performing three shows in the 1,800-seat threatre.  Tickets for the circus start at $15.

Also this month, the theatre is hosting performances of the 2010 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical, Memphis, as we reported earlier this month.
