NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Free Public Library has begun accepting submissions for its annual photography contest. 

Each year, the libray holds the photo contest in the spring, and allows for participants to send in their work. 

This program is free, open to the public, and refreshments will be provided!

For the spring 2014 contest, the theme will be “New Brunswick: Our Town,” and submitted works are expected to revolve around appreciating the heritage and life of the city.  

Participants are encouraged to send in photos taken in New Brunswick that depict day-to-day life in the city.

Any photograph that is not taken in New Brunswick should feature a description, outlining the connection that the piece has to the city. 

Recognition will be given to photos that highlight the 350th anniversary of New Jersey, which will be celebrated across the state this year.

The spring photography contest conclude with a free, public reception at the library on Thursday, April 24 at 6pm sharp, and the viewing of the winners will be at 6:45pm at the George Street Playhouse and Heldrich Hotel.

The library is also hosting three free workshops featuring professional photographers during the duration of the contest:

  • Andrew Darlow will be  presenting “Portrait Photography Tips and Techniques” on Wednesday, Feb. 19. at 7pm
  • Walter Choroszewski will be presenting “Digital Photography: Editing & Organizing” on Wednesday, Feb. 26. at 7pm
  • Bill Blanchard will presenting “Basics of Good Photography” on Wednesday, March 5 at 7pm.

All of the events will take place at the public library, located at 60 Livingston Avenue.  Interested participants are asked to register by calling (732) 745-5108, ext. 20.

Contest photographs can be submitted  to [email protected] along with a completed submission form, and must be sent in by March 15.

The pieces will also be on display at the George Street Playhouse and Heldrich Hotel throughout April and May.
