NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The public is invited to officially kick off to the holiday season on Friday, December 6, as the New Brunswick City Market hosts their 21st Annual Tree lighting and chili cook-off.

The festivities will be held on the corner of Livingston Avenue and George Street, in front of Monument Square from 5pm-7pm.

The free family-friendly event will host local vendors and include live music and dance performances, horse-drawn carriage rides, and a visit from Santa Claus.

The carriage rides, which shuttle people between the city’s two downtown hotels, The Heldrich and the Hyatt Regency, are free to the public and will continue for the following three weeks on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Another  highlight of the event is the annual chili cook off, where local restaurants compete for bragging rights and a trophy in a creative fundraiser for Elijah’s Promise, the city’s only soup kitchen.
