NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Three new volunteer offices joined the New Brunswick Auxiliary Police this summer.

Jorge Basilio, 23, Carlos Gomez, and Alejandro Henriquez, 27, graduated from the Middlesex County Auxiliary Police Academy in Edison in June.  There are now ten auxiliary officers in New Brunswick.

“Congratulations to the three New Brunswick residents who graduated from the Auxiliary Police Academy last week!” boasted the city government’s Facebook page.

“The Auxiliary Police is a program where residents work on a volunteer basis to give back to their neighborhoods and assist the police department during community oriented events.”

According to an announcement made last year on the City’s official website, state-accredited Auxiliary Police Academy training requires 14 weeks of training.

Applicants are required to have their high school diploma or GED, and to reside in the town where they serve.  The Auxiliary Police positions are open to anyone interested in law enforcement and community service.

Officers must serve minimum of 96 hours each year in order to maintain their certification, according to the full list of requirements on the website.

The Auxiliary force is headed by the New Brunswick Police Department Community Relations Officer Sgt. Scott Gould, who also leads the city’s Junior Police Department program.
