NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—NBToday sat down with State Senator Barbara Buono, a candidate for Governor in the November 5 election, to discuss her views on important local, county, and state issues.

In the August 2 interview, Buono said her opponent’s silence on a recent Supreme Court decision that “gutted” the Voting Rights Act spoke volumes about his lack of commitment to an issue fundamental to democracy.

“This is somebody whose not averse to giving his opinion, even when it’s unsolicitied.  Now it has been solicited, at least three times, and he’s been extremely dismissive… It’s just reprehensible.”

She also slammed Governor Christie for scheduling a special election for US Senate just twenty days before his matchup with her.  Buono said that

“He’s not willing to invest money in increasing voter turnout, but he doesn’t hesitate a moment when he’s spending untold millions of dollars on a special election for the United States Senate to fill Frank Lautenberg’s seat.”

It was estimated that holding the elections separately cost taxpayers $12 million.

New Brunswick Today invited both of the major-party candidates to a video interview at a location of their choosing. Governor Christie declined the invitation, but Senator Buono accepted.
