B.B. King Tonight at the State Theatre

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — With a grant from the Karma Foundation, the State Theatre is proud to host this year’s New Jersey Blues & Jazz Festival, a series of blues and jazz concerts, featuring a number of famous musicians.

B.B. King returns to the State Theatre tomorrow evening at 8pm, to play music. This time, King comes with with special guest The Robert Cray Band, a blues group from Georgia.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker Wins US Senate Election with Strong Support From New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Cory Booker is the next Senator from the state of New Jersey, propelling the longtime Newark politician to Washington D.C.

There, he will be one of two Senators representing New Jersey through 2014, finishing out the six-year term of the late Frank Lautenberg.  Next year, he will have to run for re-election if he wants to keep the job.

83% of voters in New Brunswick supported Booker who defeated Republican Steve Longen by a 2,149 to 400 margin in the Hub City.

Booker Leads Lonegan in Senate Race, But a Wednesday Election is Unpredictable

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—This Wednesday, Democratic mayor of Newark Cory Booker will go head-to-head with Republican candidate and former mayor of Bogota Steve Lonegan to determine who will replace the late Frank Lautenberg in the US Senate.

A recent poll conducted by the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers shows Booker winning over Lonegan by more than twenty percentage points.  Booker currently leads among likely voters by a margin of 58% to 36% with 3% undecided and 3% supporting other candidates.

Earth Mothers on Display at Alfa Gallery Through Oct. 26

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—"Earth Mothers," a new exhibit at the Alfa Art Gallery, opened to the public last Thursday and will remain open until October 26 held at their location in downtown: 108 Church Street.

The new exhibit represents an impressive accomplishment for New Brunswick's art scene.  It features a diverse display of sculptures and photographs that line the walls, each one expressing the duality of nature, in the Art Nouveau style.

Robert Wood Johnson Finalizes Deal with Somerset Medical Center

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On October 2, Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) University Hospital finalized its deal to merge with the Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.

This merger will secure RWJ’s position as the most comprehensive healthcare system in Central Jersey.  The system includes the main hospital in New Brunswick as well as partnerships in other cities including Hamilton, Rahway, Old Bridge, and Perth Amboy.

Wish Comes True For Activist Arrested Last Night as Governor Gets Behind NJ DREAM Act

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A broad coalition of NJ DREAM Act supporters are celebrating the fact that they can now count the state's governor among their ranks, but the victory announcement was not without incident.

In a bizarre scene that unfolded at a gala in a downtown hotel, city police arrested an activist for trespassing, seemingly at the request of the event's organizers: the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey (LLA-NJ).
