NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—NBToday sat down with State Senator Barbara Buono, a candidate for Governor in the November 5 election, to discuss her connection to New Brunswick and her views on important local, county, and state issues.
In the August 2 interview, Buono said she had fond memories of her time as a public defender based in New Brunswick, and starting a private law practice in the Hub City.
“I love New Brunswick… Boy has it changed over the past twenty years,” said Buono.
Asked her favorite places in the city, she listed Evelyn’s restaurant and Sparks salon, both located on Easton Avenue.
As we reported earlier this year, Buono’s statewide campaign headquarters is situated in the heart of downtown New Brunswick, where she has campaigned hard.
By contrast, Christie has only made a handful of trips to New Brunswick on the campaign trail, including one last week.
Buono, a mother of two adult children, is a resident of nearby Metuchen Boro, where she once served as police chief. Â For the past twenty years she has served as an elected official: first as a Boro Councilwoman, then a State Assemblywoman, and as a State Senator since 2002.
The district she represents includes Edison, Metuchen, East Brunswick, South Plainfield, South River, Helmetta, and Spotswood.
New Brunswick Today invited both of the major-party candidates to a video interview at a location of their choosing. Â Governor Christie declined the invitation, but Senator Buono accepted.
