NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The outdoor music series “Hub City Sounds” will continue through the month of September with two free concerts this weekend in Boyd Park.

This September 7 and 8, coLAB Arts presents LOVE NEW BRUNSWICK WEEKEND: A Celebration of the eclectic music scene at Boyd Park.

This is the second year Hub City Sounds is being celebrated, now with even more participation from local organizations.

CoLab ARTS is a non-profit organization that encourages an variety of local musicians and artists to showcase their talents.

“Through the generous support and involvement of our community, coLAB Arts is able to provide artistic incubation where creative ideas are inspired and risk-taking is supported,” according to their website.

Comedian Chris Gethard, the host of Manhattan Neighborhood Network’s “The Chris Gethard Show,” will host the Saturday concert, making a triumphant return to the Hub City, where he studied at Rutgers.

On Saturday, from 1pm to 6pm, Don Giovanni Records, based out of Kingston, NJ will be presenting a free showcase featuring several punk rock bands that were formed in New Brunswick including the Screaming Females, California X, Black Wine, along with the Massachusetts group Brick Mower.

The Screaming Females recently celebrated the eighth anniversary of their first show, which took place in a New Brunswick basement.

On Sunday, LOVE NEW BRUNSWICK WEEKEND continues with 90.3 The Core‘s free show will start at 12pm and end at 5pm.

90.3 The Core is a radio station that broadcasts from Rutgers Livingston campus in Piscataway.  It is a joint venture with Piscataway High School.

All musicians performing on Sunday are either current or past Rutgers students. The lineup includes Zero for Conduct, Dollys, Treatment, and Sink Tapes.

The event will also feature the visual artwork by Jamie Bruno and LNY.
