NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—City resident David Campos-Garcia was fatally stabbed this morning shortly before 3am, according to a press release from county prosecutor Andrew Carey.

According to police radio transmissions, the stabbing took place in the street front of a Mexican restaurant located at 316 Suydam Street, near the railroad overpass.

Based on preliminary information, officers were seeking a Hispanic man running up Suydam Street toward Joyce Kilmer Avenue, wearing a white jacket and black jeans.

Authorities arrested Carlos Lopez, 47, at his Handy Street home at 9:19 this morning, less than six hours after Campos-Garcia was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Lopez is currently being held on $1 million bail.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Investigator Villegas of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (723) 745-3300.
