NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Multiple sources have confirmed that former Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan has resigned from office, following a difficult week that saw an onslought of criticism on the eleven-year veteran.

As we reported last month, Gov. Chris Christie announced his intention to replace Kaplan as the county’s top law enforcement official with Andrew Carey, a former colleague of the governors’ in the US Attorney’s office.

A source said Carey will be sworn in at 9:30am Monday morning and will be directly appointed by Christie.  Carey is still awaiting confirmation from the NJ State Senate.

NewBrunswickToday.com followed up on the work of Home News Tribune reporter Bob Makin when it came to Kaplan’s questionable decisions in a case involving widespread thefts by employees of the New Brunswick Parking Authority.

Also this week, Makin reported on a workplace discrimination lawsuit filed by a former employee of the prosecutor’s office, which came on the heels of his coverage of allegations of racism against an assistant prosecutor.

On Wednesday, Makin penned an editorial calling into question the influence of Kaplan’s ally, former New Brunswick Mayor John Lynch, on the longtime prosecutor.
