NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is in the process of conducting repair work on the Route 18 bridge over Route 1 in New Brunswick, as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) issued a traffic advisory warning for residents to “expect heavy congestion and traffic delays” every night this week, Monday through Friday.

Live repair work is scheduled to be conducted from 8:00pm until 4:30am on both sides of Route 18.

Motorists should expect “up to two (2) lane closures on Route 18 around the ramps and bridge.”

The repair work might also “force the closure of two (2) lanes on Route 1 below the bridge.”

An official document released by the NJDOT contains further details of each project in New Jersey as part of the overall American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The project specific to New Brunswick is estimated to have cost 1$ million dollars, and is described as “design work.”

Also, the improvements “will accelerate the final design work for bridge deck replacement allowing construction phase to begin sooner.”

The Department of Transportation reminds motorists that all work is weather dependent, and encourages them to check 511nj.org for real-time construction updates and information.
