NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Just in time for warm weather, three new frozen yogurt shops have opened in downtown New Brunswick. All four spots in town – Red Mango, Let’s YO!, Top It, and Truly Yogurt – serve frozen yogurt with a unique twist.
Frozen yogurt, affectionately referred to as “froyo,” is similar to soft-serve ice cream. It tastes great, is low in fat, and it is packed with calcium, protein, and probiotics that help the immune and digestive systems.
Most frozen yogurt shops are self-serve: customers are free to mix and match flavors and smother their treats in candy, fresh fruit, nuts, sprinkles, and even sugary cereal. It is then weighed at the register and paid for by the ounce. All four of New Brunswick’s froyo shops charge 49 cents per ounce.
Red Mango celebrated its grand opening on April 6 at 98 Albany Street with a DJ, a dancing froyo mascot, and best of all – free small cups of yogurt with toppings. With delicious flavors like Nutella and Spicy Aztec Chocolate, it is easy to see why Zagat rated it as the nation’s number one frozen yogurt chain. For your convenience, Red Mango offers complimentary Wi-Fi.
Let’s YO!, a “socially minded” place to indulge, opened at 349A George Street last month. In addition to yogurt, coffee, sorbet, and cereal, the restaurant is filled with big-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and iPads available for use. Its Facebook page offers discounts and promotions such as the “Let’s YO! Name Fame,” where the restaurant posts a first name and everyone with that first name is eligible to receive 50 percent off their purchase.
Top It, directly across the street from Brother Jimmy’s, opened at 4 Easton Avenue on January 30. The restaurant features inventive flavors such as huckleberry and salted caramel popcorn as well as smoothies, coffee, sorbet, and free Wi-Fi.

Further up the street at 38 Easton Avenue is a more established yogurt shop: Truly Yogurt. Founded as Fruity Yogurt in 2009, the popular college hangout changed its name in 2012.
Truly Yogurt serves unique Asian-inspired flavors such as taro, mocha, and lychee. Also popular are its shaved ice, bubble tea, and spacious outdoor patio.
