NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Firefighters spent roughly two hours this morning combating a blaze that started in a residential home on Suydam Street near the Northeast Corridor railroad.

The fire broke out at around 4 am, waking neighbors and catching the attention of passers-by on the main thoroughfare.

It eventually spread to two adjacent homes, damaging them and displacing at least 20 residents.  Multiple companies responded to battle the fire, including those from New Brunswick, Edison, East Franklin, and East Brunswick.
